OPPORTUNITIES WITH GLOBAL AFFAIRS / GOVERNMENT OF CANADA
Global Affairs Canada is working with DigiBC and the Canadian Interactive Alliance (CIAIC) to support business development for your studio and game. Studios have the opportunity to showcase their games on the expo floor, as well as sign up for private pitch sessions with investors and publishers.


#1. Showcase Your Game at Canada Booth
The Canada Booth will be in the GDC Play space. It will provide Canadian studios with the opportunity to showcase their games, services or technologies during a specific time slot.

#2. Canadian Pitch Sessions to Investors/Publishers (March 19, 10am-12pm & 1-3pm)

- Will take place at the MeetToMatch venue
- Two sessions for up to 18 Canadian studios (9 studios per session) with a PC/console project to pitch
- Exclusive audience of international publishers and investors

Eligibility criteria for this includes the following:

Product is an entertainment game (services, platforms, serious games, and technology, aren't suitable for these sessions)
Game is in a pitchable state (ie, has a playable build and at least early gameplay footage can be shown)
Premium title (F2P, mobile, AR/VR technologies arent suitable for these sessions)
Game should be a minimum of 6 months away from release at the moment of pitching in March, preferably 9 months or more

CIAIC MISSION: FINANCING FOR TRAVEL & PITCH COACHING

The CIAIC has obtained financial support from the federal government’s CanExport program for Canadian indie game studios to participate in a business development mission to GDC. This will provide funding for your plane ticket and hotel, the option for a first or second Expo Pass, access to pitch sessions and individual coaching with Pierre Moisan, a senior video game veteran advisor who has led over 25 international missions and coached numerous Canadian indies. Companies already signed up with the TCS mission are welcome to apply.

This Provides:
Up to $600 reimbursement of your plane ticket
Up to $1000 reimbursement of your documented living expenses (hotel, meals)
Individual coaching with Pierre Moisan (value of $500)
Option to buy an extra GDC Expo Pass for a discount rate of $200

Option to participate in The Mix for a small extra fee


Eligibility Criteria:
● Video game developers established in Canada, with a Canadian ownership majority
● Strong export potential
● At the early stage of commercialization
● Annual revenues of less than $5M CAD
● Member of their respective provincial video game CIAIC association: DigiBC, Digital Alberta, SaskInteractive, New Media Manitoba, InteractiveOntario, La Guilde du jeu vidéo du Québec, Interactive Society of Nova Scotia, Videogames PEI

CREATIVE BC'S PASSPORT TO MARKETS PROGRAM

Applications are now open for Creative BC's Passport to Markets program to receive funding to attend GDC 2024. This provides creative media professionals the opportunity to access key international markets and conferences by offsetting a portion of travel, accommodation and registration expenses.

Team Canada Trade Mission to South Korea 
Led by the Honourable Mary Ng 
Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development

 

Canada's Trade Commissioner Service is seeking small, medium and large-sized companies, including exporters from diverse backgrounds, to join the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development for a Team Canada Trade Mission to South Korea.

Dates: April 21-25, 2024  
Market: Seoul, South Korea 
Sectors: The program will be tailored to areas of Canadian competitive advantage and will focus on the following sectors:  

  • Creative Industries (audio-visual, interactive media, gaming)
  • Information & Communications Technologies (ICT)
  • Agriculture & Processed Foods
  • Lean Technology
  • Clean Energy
  • Life Sciences


As Canada’s seventh largest trading partner and sixth largest import and export partner, South Korea is an ideal market for Canadian businesses to export to. 

 

WHY PARTICIPATE?

·        Networking opportunities with Minister Ng and South Korean business leaders 

·        Business briefings, including on the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA), by Trade Commissioners, senior officials and key local industry players

·        Export-ready Canadian companies of all sizes, including exporters from diverse backgrounds, with strong potential to address opportunities in South Korea and generate tangible business outcomes
 


TRAVEL CONSIDERATIONS & EXPENSES

·        Participants are responsible for organizing their own travel arrangements, including all air and ground transportation to and from the airport, and to make their own accommodation reservations using the provided hotel room blocks

·        There is no fee to participate in the trade mission, however, participants are responsible for covering all related travel costs, including airfare, accommodations, ground transportation and meals not included in the program

·        It is recommended to purchase cancellation insurance and/or a refundable ticket in the event that the trade mission dates change

·        Pay close attention to the entry and exit requirements for the country and plan accordingly to ensure you apply for the necessary entry documents

 

APPLICATIONS

·        All applications will be subject to a screening process to assess export readiness, eligibility, and suitability

·        A maximum of two company representatives can register

·        If selected, you will be provided with a detailed program and additional resources to assist with making your travel arrangements
