Trade Accelerator Program: Creative Industries Cohort

The Trade Accelerator Program is offering qualifying DigiBC member companies a full bursary (equivalent to $5,000 in value) which covers two seats per company to attend the upcoming Creative Industries Cohort. The program has a proven track record of helping SMEs tap into their full export potential. It is designed to accelerate the strategic development of your business and better prepare you for expansion into international markets. The next cohort starts in October and is tailored specifically for small to medium sized companies in the creative industries.

 

British Columbia Interactive & Digital Media Tax Credit
The Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit (IDMTC) is for eligible registered corporations that develop interactive digital media products. The credit applies to digital media products developed after August 31, 2010 and before September 1, 2028. Corporations must register with the Ministry of Finance and pay the application fee for each tax year it wants to claim the IDMTC. The credit is calculated as 17.5% of eligible salary and wages incurred in the tax year.


BC Trade Commissioner Service

The BC Trade Commissioner Service can assist companies in province's creative technology sector to grow globally by offering expert insight, connecting them with funding and support programs, and providing opportunities to participate in industry trade missions to Gamescom, GDC, MIGS, etc.

 

Canada Media Fund: Innovation & Experimentation Program
Projects funded through the CMF Innovation & Experimentation Program are Canadian interactive digital media content and software applications that are innovative and leading-edge.

Creative BC Interactive Fund
A partnership between Creative BC and the BC Arts Council, the Interactive Fund supports the creation of high quality, original interactive digital media projects that support diversity in artistic expression, demonstrate clear connections between art and technology, and provide opportunities for access, dissemination, and engagement with audiences and within the B.C. arts and culture sector. 

Baby Ghosts Grant & Peer Accelerator Program
Weird Ghosts is a Canadian impact investment fund that supports indie video game studios led by underrepresented founders. Their Baby Ghosts Peer Accelerator is a six-month program that offers a $25,000 grant for companies to develop their business and plan for a sustainable future. The program emphasizes open communication, progress mapping, and interactive creative reflection.

TAP Network: D&I Resource HUB

TAP Network’s EDIB Resource Hub is a free online resource library for the tech sector. It was created thanks to provincial and tech industry funding, along with community collaboration from dozens of organizations and individuals. The website provides access to over 400 best-in-class Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging resources and tools.

CBC, CAVCO & CMPA: One Stop Business Workshop Series
A one stop business workshop virtual series, brought to you by CBC, the Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office (CAVCO), and the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA). This brings together organizations from across the industry to introduce emerging independent producers and content creators from traditionally underrepresented groups in the industry, to topics related to the business and financing of film, TV and original digital content.

The Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) released this research report in November 2022. It was conducted by the NPD Group on video game players across Canada. It reflects the growing popularity of online gaming, with an increasing number of Canadians playing video games as part of a broader online community.
